Education Adviser CR Abrar on Saturday called on students to return to classes, emphasising the need to prepare themselves for building a knowledgeable, self-reliant and discrimination-free nation.
“The time has come for students to return to the classroom,” he said while addressing the convocation ceremony of Hajee Danesh Science and Technology University in Dinajpur. “To build a meritorious nation and an inclusive society, students must prepare themselves and take responsibility as architects of a self-reliant country.”
He said ordinary people, under student leadership, had “seized victory by ignoring the brutality of the fascist ruling class,” adding that the courage, morale and patriotism shown by students in overcoming repression would remain a historic example.
The event began with tributes to the martyrs of the Language Movement, the Liberation War and the 2024 mass uprising. Abrar recalled his student life, noting that he once had the opportunity to meet Tebhaga movement leader Haji Mohammad Danesh.
Speaking on higher education, he said that despite limited national resources, the government had taken steps to advance research.
He urged teachers to strengthen research activities together with students.
More than eight thousand graduates, postgraduates and PhD recipients received certificates at the convocation, the second held at the university.
Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman also addressed the ceremony. University Grants Commission member Professor Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan and Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science & Technology University Vice-Chancellor Md Enamul Haque were present.
