A student of Eden College was injured when muggers attempted to snatch her bag near the Motijheel Metro Rail Station in the capital on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 8am. Arpita Mukherjee, 24, is currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. She is a third-year student at Eden College and resides in Azimpur.
Probita, who rescued Arpita, said that while the victim was passing under the Motijheel station by rickshaw, muggers arriving in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw pulled at the vanity bag in her hand. As a result, Arpita fell from the rickshaw and sustained serious injuries.
She immediately contacted her classmates by phone, who rushed to the spot and rescued her. Initially, she was taken to Anwar Khan Modern Hospital and later transferred to DMCH for further treatment.
It has been reported that the snatchers failed to take anything from her.
Quoting doctors, Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the incident. Police have been informed about the matter.
