The Election Commission (EC) will engage in dialogue with media representatives on Monday in preparation for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The dialogue will take place at the EC Secretariat’s conference room in Agargaon, Dhaka, according to Ashadul Haque, Assistant Director (Public Relations) of the EC.
Representatives from electronic media will attend the session from 10:30am to 12:30pm while print media journalists will meet from 2:30pm to 4:30pm.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin will chair the meeting, which will also include four Election Commissioners.
This dialogue is part of the EC’s ongoing efforts to create a free, fair, peaceful, and festive election environment. The commission has been seeking opinions and suggestions from political parties, academics, civil society members, journalists, election experts, and other stakeholders.
Ashadul Haque confirmed that over 40 media personnel from various outlets will participate in the discussion.
The EC’s series of talks with stakeholders began on 28 September, with civil society representatives and educationists emphasising the need for comprehensive security and a credible election process. They also stressed the importance of a free and effective media for healthy democracy, urging the EC to ensure that journalists can work independently throughout the electoral process to provide accurate information to the public and avoid misunderstandings
