The Election Commission (EC) will begin its dialogue with registered political parties on 13 November, as part of preparations for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
On the opening day, the EC will hold discussions in two separate sessions with 12 political parties. Letters of invitation were sent to the parties on Tuesday by the EC’s Public Relations wing, according to commission sources.
The first session, scheduled from 10am to 12 noon, will include the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Bangladesh Congress, Bangladesh Muslim League, National People’s Party (NPP), Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan, and Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Bangladesh.
The second session, from 2pm to 4pm, will feature the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD), Biplobi Workers Party, Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF), and Bangladesh Nationalist Movement (BNM).
The BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami are expected to be invited in subsequent rounds of talks.
Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the start of the dialogue on Tuesday, saying, “We aim to complete our discussions with all registered parties within this month to achieve our desired objectives.”
When asked whether the Jatiya Party would be invited, the EC secretary declined to comment directly, saying, “We have not yet finalised the list of invitees. The decision will be made after further discussion, and the names will be announced step by step.”
