Eastern University welcomed newly admitted students for the Summer Semester 2026 at an orientation programme held at its permanent campus in Ashulia on 18 July, outlining its academic system, support services and opportunities for research, leadership and professional development.
Eastern University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Farid A Sobhani presided over the event, while University of Dhaka Department of Law Professor Dr Borhan Uddin Khan attended as chief guest, the university said in a press release. Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh member Prof Dr Md Hassan Kawsar was the special guest.
Khan urged the students to develop a strong sense of justice, honesty, human values and respect for the rule of law. He also stressed critical thinking, logical reasoning and social responsibility alongside academic excellence.
Kawsar advised the freshers to focus on research, innovation and professional development, describing university life as a crucial stage for personal and career growth.
Gazipur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate and Eastern University alumnus Md Abdullah-Al-Masum attended as a guest speaker. He encouraged the students to use their university years to build knowledge, skills and leadership qualities.
In his presidential address, Sobhani called on the students to uphold moral values, discipline and humanity, and become responsible citizens committed to the welfare of the country and society.
Eastern University Proctor and Associate Professor Abdur Rob administered the oath to the freshers and encouraged them to participate actively in academic, research and co-curricular activities.
University Treasurer Professor Md Shamsul Huda also addressed the programme, while Registrar Dr Abul Basher Khan delivered the welcome address.
School of Law Dean ABM Imdadul Haque Khan and School of Life Sciences adviser Prof Dr Firoj Ahmed also spoke. Department of Law Head and orientation programme convener Mohammad Mamunur Rashid delivered the concluding remarks.
Deans, department heads, faculty members, administrative officials, staff, guardians and newly admitted students attended the event.
The orientation introduced students to the university’s academic system, student support services, clubs, co-curricular activities and campus facilities. A cultural performance by students concluded the programme.
