Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, met BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Monday evening .
During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor expressed deep condolences over the death of three-time former prime minister Khaleda Zia, describing her as a symbol of national unity, according to a press release.
He prayed for the eternal peace of her departed soul and personally conveyed his sympathy to Tarique Rahman.
The meeting was part of regular dialogue with leaders of various political parties aimed at ensuring stability and maintaining a conducive environment at the University of Dhaka ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election.
Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan briefed the BNP acting chairman on a range of issues, including overall campus security and stability in the pre-election period, progress of major development projects at the university, the post-DUCSU election situation, ongoing education and research activities, improvements in DU’s international rankings, and recent initiatives undertaken for student welfare.
He also informed him about various programmes organised by the University of Dhaka in memory of Khaleda Zia following her demise.
The Vice-Chancellor said that stability at the University of Dhaka plays a significant role during the national election period.
He sought the advice and cooperation of the BNP Acting Chairman in maintaining campus stability, enhancing education and research, and advancing infrastructural development.
In response, Tarique Rahman assured all possible cooperation in the development of education and research, as well as in infrastructural advancement of the university.
Earlier, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan signed the condolence book preserved at the BNP chairperson’s office.
