Dhaka University administration has decided to reopen its residential halls and resume regular in-person classes from 28 December.
At the same time, the previously announced winter break will remain in effect, with 23 and 24 December added as additional holidays, a move also approved by the authorities.
Furthermore, postponed examinations are scheduled to resume in the first week of January.
The decision was taken at a Deans’ Committee meeting held in the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Wednesday, chaired by Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan.
The meeting reviewed post-earthquake technical inspections of various residential halls, evaluations by a sub-committee formed with BUET experts, and recommendations from the university’s engineering department.
Considering these reports, it was decided to retain the previously announced winter break and designate 23 and 24 December as extra holidays. Consequently, residential halls and academic activities will restart from 28 December.
No examinations will be held on campus during the holiday period. However, to mitigate learning gaps, ongoing online classes will continue until 13 December.
The committee also decided that exams postponed due to the break will resume in the first week of January 2026, with each department setting a revised schedule in coordination with its dean and the examination controller’s office.
The meeting also noted that post-earthquake assessments and repair work at the residential halls are ongoing on a priority basis. While the halls will reopen, renovation work may continue in some buildings.
