A gardener at Dhaka University (DU) died on Tuesday after a jackfruit fell on his head while he was harvesting fruit at Rokeya Hall.
The deceased was identified as Siyamul, 39, a gardener employed at DU’s Rokeya Hall. The incident occurred around 10am.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH Police Camp confirmed the death.
According to his colleague Sunil Chauhan, Siyamul was standing on a table and using a bamboo pole to dislodge a jackfruit when it hit another jackfruit on a nearby tree. The second fruit fell onto his head, causing him to fall face-down on the paved floor.
He was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition, where he died while undergoing treatment at around 11:30am.
Inspector Faruk said the body was handed over to the relatives without autopsy.
