Government-aided and board-affiliated educational institutions across the country are prohibited from collecting monthly tuition fees from students who have been awarded merit and general scholarships.
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has issued a formal directive to all educational institutions to ensure compliance with this policy.
Professor Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, director general of DSHE, stated that any institution found violating these instructions will face legal and disciplinary action against the head of the concerned institution.
According to the DSHE directive, all merit and general scholarship recipients are entitled to study without paying tuition.
Demanding monthly fees from these students is officially classified as a “violation of rules”, and departmental disciplinary measures will be initiated against the heads of institutions who fail to adhere to this mandate.
Under the current policy of the Ministry of Education, these benefits are applicable to students who receive government merit and general scholarships based on their results in the JSC, JDC, and SSC examinations.
In addition to the monthly stipend, scholarship holders are provided with a one-time annual grant. These funds are required to be deposited directly into the bank accounts of the students.
To ensure the proper implementation of this directive, the DSHE has sent copies of the notification to all education boards, the University Grants Commission (UGC), all government and private colleges, medical and engineering colleges, and all district and upazila education officers.
