A man died after sustaining severe burns in an explosion around 10:45 am on Friday in Fatullah, Narayanganj.
National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Residential Surgeon Shawon Bin Rahman confirmed the matter. The victim has been identified as Abdul Kadir, 50.
Shawon said Kadir had sustained burns to 57 percent of his body. His three sons – Mehedi, 17, Sakib, 16, and his twin Rakib- remain hospitalised.
According to a neighbour, Faruk, the family lived in a rented one-storey building. A deafening explosion woke the locals. Everyone then rushed there and saw that the doors and windows of the house had collapsed. They were coming out one by one from inside the room in a burnt state.
The victims were immediately rescued and transported to the hospital.
The exact cause remains unconfirmed and it is suspected that the blast was triggered by accumulated gas from a leak or a refrigerator compressor.
Kadir was an auto-rickshaw driver by profession. At the time of the accident, the three sons and their father were asleep. Their mother narrowly escaped as she was outside collecting water for cooking.
