Northern University Bangladesh has appointed Md Mizanur Rahman as its new vice chancellor, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Education on Sunday.

The order, signed by Assistant Secretary Sultan Ahmed on behalf of the President, said the appointment was approved under Section 31(1) of the Private University Act 2010. It said he will serve a four-year term with university-approved pay, allowances and benefits, and that the decision takes immediate effect.

University of Dhaka Professor of Marketing Md Mizanur Rahman has built a long academic career marked by notable achievements. He graduated from the same department with record marks, securing first place in the first class.

He later completed an MBA with a double major in finance and marketing from Dalhousie University in Canada, where he ranked within the top one percent of graduates. He also earned his master’s and PhD from the University of Dhaka.

Over a 35-year academic career, he served as chair of the marketing department for three years and held elected positions in the university’s syndicate and senate

Mizanur also worked as a dean at Daffodil International University and taught as an adjunct faculty member at North South University, Brac University and Independent University Bangladesh.

He has more than 35 publications, including articles in foreign journals and several research monographs, and supervised multiple MPhil and PhD researchers. He also served for several years as vice president of the Dhaka University Marketing Alumni Association.

Beyond academia, Mizanur has worked as an independent director and strategic adviser for different corporate organisations and served on the governing bodies of several colleges in Dhaka. He is currently chair of the North South Society.
