In an effort to modernise the capital’s traffic management and make it more effective, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is progressing with the construction of five two-storied traffic police boxes.
As part of this initiative, DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz inaugurated a fully modern-equipped, two-storied traffic police box at the Agargaon crossing this morning, according to a press release.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony, the DNCC Administrator said, “Traffic police members provide their services on the streets under the sun, rain, and storms. In some places, they even have to serve from tin-shed shanties – this cannot be the image of this city in any way.
“DMP requested us to build modern police boxes, and we are creating a beautiful, safe, and comfortable working environment for police members so that they can perform their duties more efficiently.”
The administrator further said, “Special care was taken during construction to ensure no inconvenience to pedestrians. The structure has been built over the footpath in such a way that people can walk underneath without any obstruction.”
Highlighting that the police boxes have been built to be women-friendly, the administrator informed, “Initially, the plan was for one toilet, but later, separate toilet facilities for male and female police members were arranged. The entire structure has been built as a climate-resilient and environmentally friendly design.”
Construction work for smart traffic police boxes is currently ongoing at a total of four locations in Dhaka, including Mirpur-13 (beside SOS Hermann Gmeiner College), in front of Suhrawardy Hospital, beside Police Plaza (adjacent to Fazle Rabbi Park), and Sonargaon intersection.
Among others present at the event were DNCC’s Chief Engineer Brig Gen Moin Uddin and DMP’s Joint Commissioner (Traffic) Sufian Ahmed.
DNCC hopes that once the new smart traffic police boxes become operational, city residents will receive faster, safer, and higher-quality traffic services.
