The National Task Force Committee, established to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases, will continue its regular monitoring and operations across various residences and establishments in Dhaka to eradicate mosquitoes during the monsoon season.
According to the press release, Local Govt., Rural Development & Cooperatives State Minister Mir Shahe Alam announced the continuation of these efforts today while inspecting a drive to search for Aedes mosquitoes and destroy larvae at several buildings on roads 107 and 112 in Gulshan 2.
The state minister urged city dwellers to ensure their own safety by keeping their balconies, flowerpots, roof gardens, and ground floors clean and tidy.
Following the inspection, Brigadier General Imrul Kayes, the Chief Health Officer of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), informed journalists that a three-month programme has been launched to eliminate dengue mosquitoes during the monsoon.
Under this initiative, regular awareness and cleaning activities are being carried out at every household. He requested the cooperation of citizens in clearing stagnant water from their homes and rooftops to assist the DNCC in its mission.
During the operation, DNCC Executive Magistrate Marufa Akter Nelly fined the owner of Choice Restaurant on Road 107 a sum of Tk50,000, with a default sentence of two months’ imprisonment.
In addition to destroying larvae, the authorities conducted awareness campaigns via loudspeakers (miking), distributed leaflets, and used stickers to educate residents on preventing the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes.
