The newly appointed Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Md Shafiqul Islam Khan on Tuesday paid tribute at the graves of BNP founder shaheed president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia in the capital.
Accompanied by a large number of party leaders, activists and supporters, he visited Zia Udyan in the afternoon, where he offered prayers seeking eternal peace for the departed leaders.
Special prayers were also offered for the country’s peace, stability and continued progress.
Earlier in the day, Shafiqul Islam formally assumed office as DNCC administrator at the Local Government Division of the Secretariat.
After joining, he paid a courtesy call on Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and officially took charge of his new responsibilities.
He later met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as part of his official engagements.
The DNCC administrator pledged to prioritise the overall development of the city corporation, improve service delivery and expand civic facilities for residents during his tenure.
