The government has decided to reopen the country’s sick and closed industrial enterprises in partnership with private entrepreneurs. The decision was reached during a special meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

The meeting involved a comprehensive review of the current state of various industrial units and discussions on how to revitalise sick and shut factories to contribute to national economic development.

During the proceedings, the prime minister issued a formal directive to reopen these facilities, aligning with his election pledge to generate employment by bringing stagnant industries back into operation.

The directive specifically stipulates that sick and closed jute mills and sugar factories must be reopened. The plan involves reinstating former workers while simultaneously creating new employment opportunities.

A committee, led by the Ministry of Industries, has reportedly already commenced work to implement these instructions.
