Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has formed a nine-member committee to ensure the safety, reliability, and sustainable operation of the metro rail, in compliance with directives from High Court.
DMTCL announced the move in a press release issued on Wednesday.
Following a metro rail accident on 26 October 2025, a safety audit committee was established under the leadership of Professor Jahangir Alam, the former vice-chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), as per High Court orders.
After conducting inspections and investigations, the committee submitted a report titled “Identification of Operational Risks, Safety Audit and Structural Integrity of the Constructed Corridor of MRT-6” to the court through the Road Transport and Highways Division.
Upon reviewing the report, High Court directed DMTCL to implement 28 recommendations, including eight short-term, 10 medium-term, and 10 long-term measures.
The court instructed DMTCL to follow six strategic recommendations from the committee for all ongoing and future MRT projects.
The newly formed nine-member committee has been tasked with the swift and effective implementation of these instructions. Its responsibilities include coordinating relevant activities and regularly monitoring overall progress.
Progress reports will be submitted periodically to the High Court through the Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division and the DMTCL’s panel lawyer.
DMTCL stated that it is working with passenger safety as its highest priority. The organisation expects that the implementation of expert recommendations and court directives will make the operation of MRT Line-6 safer, stronger, and elevated to international standards.
