Dhaka Metropolitan Police Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar has asked police members to remain highly vigilant to ensure safe and smooth travel for people leaving the capital ahead of Eid.
He gave the instruction while addressing the monthly crime review meeting at the DMP headquarters on Thursday.
Sarwar said police must stay alert to prevent crimes, robberies, disorderly gatherings and other unlawful activities during the Eid travel period.
He also said officers must perform their duties with honesty and professionalism to strengthen the image and effectiveness of the police.
Additional police forces will be deployed across the city to ensure safe passenger movement during the Eid period, he said.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner Crime and Operations SN Md Nazrul Islam said special vigilance and supervision will be maintained at major bus and launch terminals.
Patrol activities across Dhaka will also be intensified during the Eid holidays, he said.
He added that CCTV cameras installed in Eid markets and shopping malls will be monitored regularly to ensure they remain operational.
At the meeting, the acting commissioner also awarded police officers of different ranks for their contributions to maintaining law and order, controlling crime and ensuring public safety in the capital.
Senior officials of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police attended the meeting.
