The Traffic Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has fined Tk 1,92,000 and jailed 23 individuals to various terms during drives across the capital against illegal encroachment of roads and footpaths, as well as other violations under the Road Transport Act, 2018.
According to a press release, the Kotwali Traffic Zone conducted an extensive operation in Gowlalghat-Narinda area, arresting 13 individuals and seizing goods linked to unlawful activities.
Legal proceedings against the detainees are ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Wari Traffic Zone removed unauthorised shops and businesses along Dholai Para to Jatrabari intersection and Shahid Faruk Sarani, fining seven shopkeepers a total of Tk15,000 and issuing warnings to others.
In Ramna, authorities cleared footpaths from Moghbazar intersection to Banglamotor signal, issuing 49 video summons and 10 on-the-spot fines, collecting Tk15,000 in penalties, and confiscating goods equivalent to three pickup loads.
The Pallabi Zone in Mirpur carried out operations in Kazipara, Shewrapara, and Bashantek areas, imposing Tk65,000 in fines on six businesses while clearing roads of illegal encroachments.
The Motijheel Traffic Division cleared roads and footpaths from Nightingale intersection to Fakirapool Kacha Bazar, collecting nearly Tk70,000 in fines and arresting 10 individuals.
Tejgaon authorities removed encroachments along Indira Road and issued directives to shop owners. In Gulshan, around 50 shops were warned and fined Tk27,000 for violations, while in Uttara, shopkeepers occupying footpaths were verbally cautioned.
The release added that such coordinated operations will continue to ensure smooth public movement and maintain road discipline across the capital.
