The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has dismissed social media claims regarding the recovery of bodies from the Turag River, describing the information as baseless, misleading and intended to create confusion.
In a statement issued on Saturday, DMP said it had recently noticed the circulation of photos, videos and claims on various social media platforms alleging repeated recovery of bodies from the river.
“An investigation has been conducted with utmost seriousness to address public concern,” the statement said.
According to the police, no reports of serial body recoveries, murders or any related incidents have been received in the Turag Police Station area under the Uttara Division.
It further said that no individual or organisation has filed any complaint, general diary (GD) or case at Turag Police Station in connection with the rumours.
The DMP also said that preliminary inquiries confirmed the circulated information had no factual basis, adding that the Bangladesh Police had already issued an official clarification on its verified Facebook page.
Separately, checks conducted in areas under Pallabi and Rupnagar police stations in the Mirpur Crime Division also found no supporting evidence, complaints or incidents linked to the claims circulating online.
The police urged members of the public not to share, believe or promote unverified content on social media, warning that such rumours could create unnecessary panic and disrupt public order.
The DMP said responsible use of social media was essential to prevent misinformation from undermining law and order in the capital.
