Police recovered the dismembered body of a man from two plastic drums near the main gate of the National Eidgah, adjacent to the High Court area, in Dhaka on Thursday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Ashraful Haque, son of Abdur Rashid of Badarganj, Rangpur. His identity was confirmed through fingerprint analysis.
Confirming the incident, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur said that someone had left two plastic drums on the footpath adjacent to the water pump near the National Eidgah ground.
Upon opening one of the drums, dismembered body parts were found inside at around 6pm.
The remains have been recovered and sent to the morgue for autopsy. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area as part of the ongoing murder investigation.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Masud Alam confirmed that the deceased has been identified through fingerprints as Ashraful Haque.
Police have launched an investigation to determine how he was killed and who dumped his body in the drum.
