Dhaka Customs House (DCH) has started providing its services round-the clock, with the National Board of Revenue (NBR) deploying extra manpower to handle added pressure.
The move comes in response to increasing demands from the business community for uninterrupted import-export activities, especially after recent disruptions caused by incidents such as the fire at Cargo Village.
To facilitate the deployment, the NBR issued two separate posting orders on Monday, appointing two deputy commissioners and 15 assistant revenue officers on deputation.
These officials will support the existing workforce to provide seamless customs clearance services at all hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.
Customs officials said that extra manpower was needed to maintain operations 24/7.
The appointed officers have been instructed to join their new posts by October 22, marking the beginning of continuous customs services for facilitating business operations and minimising clearance backlogs.
Industry representatives welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that this will enhance the country’s trade competitiveness and restore confidence among exporters and importers relying on timely customs processing.
