The dengue outbreak continues across the country, with 693 more patients hospitalised and two deaths reported in the past 24 hours.
With the latest figures, the number of dengue patients admitted to hospitals this year has risen to 22,243, while the death toll has reached 65, according to the Directorate General of Health Services’ (DGHS) daily dengue report released on Thursday.
Of the newly admitted patients, 592 were hospitalised in different divisions outside Dhaka, while 101 were admitted to hospitals in the capital.
During the same period, 669 patients were discharged from hospitals. Since 1 January, a total of 20,563 dengue patients have recovered and left hospitals.
Among the divisions outside Dhaka, 103 new patients were admitted in Khulna, the highest number during the period. Chattogram reported 95 new admissions, Barishal 80, Rajshahi 51, Mymensingh 43, Rangpur 15 and Sylhet five.
In Dhaka division outside the capital, new patients were admitted in different districts, including six in Faridpur, 20 in Gazipur, 38 in Narayanganj and seven in Narsingdi.
The two deaths reported in the past 24 hours were both women aged between 36 and 50 years.
Of the 65 dengue deaths recorded this year, 41 were women and 24 were men. Women account for 63.1 per cent of the total deaths, while men account for 36.9 per cent.
However, men make up the majority of dengue patients this year. Of the total 22,243 patients, 13,750 are men and 8,488 are women. Male patients account for 61.8 per cent of the total cases, while female patients account for 38.2 per cent.
According to DGHS data, the highest number of dengue patients this year are aged between 26 and 30 years, with 3,114 cases. They are followed by those aged 21 to 25 years with 3,091 cases and 16 to 20 years with 2,937 cases.
By division, Barishal recorded the highest number of dengue hospitalisations this year with 4,160 cases, followed by Chattogram with 3,664, Dhaka division outside the city corporation areas with 3,015, and Khulna with 2,951 cases.
