Actor-model Muzammil Ibrahim has addressed renewed discussions surrounding his past relationship with Deepika Padukone, saying he has no regrets about ending the relationship while stressing that his comments were made with respect.
Before marrying actor Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone dated Muzammil during their early modelling days in Mumbai. According to Indian Express, old clips from an interview with Muzammil have recently resurfaced online, where he said he was the one who ended the relationship and had “no regrets” about the decision.
Muzammil later clarified the context behind the viral clips through a post on Instagram. He said the interview being shared as “fresh claims” was actually recorded more than a year ago. He added that the circulating videos only showed selected moments from a longer conversation.
“The hesitation, the context, and the respect with which certain topics were discussed are often lost in the editing process and when excerpts are viewed in isolation,” he wrote.
The actor-model said he has always spoken about Deepika with respect and urged people to watch the complete conversation instead of judging isolated clips.
In the interview, Muzammil claimed that he and Deepika dated for nearly two years when they were starting their modelling careers. He said Deepika had proposed to him and recalled their simple auto-rickshaw dates before either of them became major stars.
Muzammil said he decided to end the relationship and believed it was the right choice at that time. He also said he was never jealous of Deepika’s success, even after she became one of Bollywood’s biggest names.
He recalled that he was more popular at the beginning of his career, but Deepika later reached greater heights through her talent and hard work. He also claimed that they remained in touch for several years after their breakup and occasionally congratulated each other on their achievements before eventually losing contact.
Muzammil, who won the Gladrags Manhunt Contest in 2003 at the age of 18, became a known face in the fashion industry before moving into acting. He appeared in music videos such as Lucky Ali’s ‘Kabhi Aisa Lagta Hai’ and the remix version of ‘Pardesiya’.
He made his Bollywood debut with Pooja Bhatt’s 2007 film ‘Dhokha’ and later appeared in films including ‘Will You Marry Me?’ Although he stepped away from the mainstream spotlight, his old comments about his relationship with Deepika have brought him back into public attention.
