Police recovered the body of a 35-year-old man from the Bakkhali river estuary in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar, on Sunday morning.
Locals spotted the body around 8am near Umkhali in the South Mithachhari Union and alerted authorities, who then retrieved it.
The deceased has been identified as Minhaj Uddin Tushar, son of Shoaib Noor, from PM Khali Union in Cox’s Bazar Sadar.
Local Union Jubo Dal president Abdullah Bhutto noted residents working in nearby vegetable fields first came across the body, which may have been carried by the river tide.
Two mobile phones were found on him and taken into police custody. Investigators plan to review the SIM data to help confirm his identity.
Ramu police officer-in-charge Monirul Islam said the circumstances of Tushar’s death are under investigation. “A joint team from the police and PBI is working to uncover the details. The body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar District Hospital morgue for autopsy,” he added.
