Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s DB-Ramna Division arrested a man with a pistol, a magazine, a cartridge and 700 pieces of Yaba from the capital’s Wari area on Monday night.
The arrestee, identified as Mobarak Hossain alias Badsha alias Khara Badsha, 34, was detained around 10:00 pm from beneath the flyover near Hotel Osmani International under Wari police station.
Detective Branch officials said the raid was carried out on the basis of a tip-off, leading to the recovery of the firearm and narcotics. Two cases have been filed against him at Wari police station under the Arms Act and the Narcotics Control Act.
Police said Mobarak is a habitual offender with 14 cases, including brawling, extortion and drug offences, and had four arrest warrants pending against him.
DB officials said he was involved in extortion, criminal activities and drug trafficking in different parts of Dhaka, and had kept the weapon to create fear and instability ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
