A Dhaka court on Monday placed Bikash Chandra Sarkar on a three-day remand in connection with the attack, vandalism, and looting at a housing project of New Gini Properties in the capital’s ECB Chhatar area.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Md Ashraful Haque passed the order after rejecting a bail petition filed by defence lawyer Saifuzzaman Tipu. Prosecution Department Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Tareq confirmed the matter.
Earlier, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) arrested Bikash from Magura.
DB Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) AFM Anwar Hossain said Bikash was apprehended over the violence, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to eight.
According to investigators, the attack occurred on the night of 26 September at the New Gini Properties housing project.
The attackers vandalised and looted property inside the project premises and the studio of content creator Salman Muqtadir.
Investigators added that the violence stemmed from a dispute over land and an access road. The assault began around 10:30pm when gunfire was opened at the project’s main gate, after which around 200 people participated in the attack.
Following the incident, Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, an official of New Gini Properties, filed a case with Cantonment Police Station.
The case explicitly names 13 individuals as accused, alongside 150 to 200 unidentified suspects.
