Actor David Oyelowo has joined the cast of the independent film Little Five, produced by Anne Hathaway’s Somewhere Pictures and Pigasus Pictures, reports Deadline.
Oyelowo will star alongside Ariana Greenblatt and Rain Spencer, who were previously announced as the film’s lead actors.
The cast also includes Sasha Frolova, Nadia Alexander, Drew Powell and Max Cortezi.
Director Ian Samuels will helm the film from a screenplay by Gillian Williams.
Little Five draws inspiration from Indiana University’s iconic Little 500 cycling race and follows a determined group of young women who challenge tradition by forming an unlikely team.
The story explores resilience, friendship and perseverance as they push the boundaries of collegiate athletics.
The film also aims to capture the spirit of an era shaped by ambition, risk-taking, memorable music and the women who helped redefine university sports.
Oyelowo will play Randall, a former cycling champion whose athletic ambitions ended prematurely.
He reluctantly returns to the sport as a mentor, helping a new generation of cyclists while confronting his own unfulfilled past.
Zachary Spicer will produce the film for Pigasus Pictures, while Anne Hathaway, Adam Shulman and Johnathan Rice will produce through Somewhere Pictures.
Oyelowo is widely recognised for portraying Dr Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma. His recent work includes starring in and co-producing the Paramount+ series Lawmen: Bass Reeves.
He has also appeared in the Apple TV+ series Silo and films including The Butler and The Book of Clarence.
