Daraz has sought to dispel speculation regarding its future in the country, reaffirming its “long-term commitment” to the market and stating that it continues to “operate normally with no plans to exit” Bangladesh.

The clarification follows recent media reports concerning the company’s investment and operational outlook, which Daraz stated did not reflect its strategic priorities or day-to-day operations.

The company highlighted its ongoing investment in “technology-driven solutions” designed to improve efficiency and customer experience. It also noted the continued expansion of its digital commerce ecosystem, which added more than 7,000 new sellers last year.

According to the company, this growing seller base has created significant opportunities for local entrepreneurs and small businesses, while supporting employment and income generation across the wider economy.

“Daraz remains firmly committed to Bangladesh and has no plans to exit the market,” a Daraz spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that periodic organisational reviews are part of normal business operations and are intended to align resources with long-term priorities.

Beyond its commercial activities, the company highlighted its role in relief efforts during the floods that affected multiple districts in 2024. More than Tk1.2 crore was contributed through corporate and employee donations in partnership with humanitarian organisations to support affected communities.

According to the statement, the e-commerce sector in Bangladesh is currently navigating a more competitive environment. Platforms are increasingly focused on efficiency and profitability as internet access and smartphone use continue to expand beyond major cities.

Daraz remains the country’s largest e-commerce platform, and its latest statement was aimed at reassuring merchants, customers, and partners regarding its continued presence in the market.
