Daraz Bangladesh sought to dispel speculation about its future in the country, reaffirming its “long-term commitment” to the market and saying it continues to “operate normally with no plans to exit” Bangladesh.
The clarification followed recent media reports about its investment and operational outlook, which the company said did not reflect its strategic priorities or day-to-day operations.
Daraz said it continues to invest in “technology-driven solutions” to improve efficiency and customer experience while expanding a digital commerce ecosystem that added more than 7,000 new sellers last year.
The company said the growing seller base has created opportunities for local entrepreneurs and small businesses while supporting employment and income generation across the wider economy.
“Daraz remains firmly committed to Bangladesh and has no plans to exit the market,” a Daraz spokesperson said, adding that periodic organisational reviews are part of normal business operations and intended to align resources with long-term priorities.
Beyond its commercial activities, the company highlighted its role in relief efforts during the floods that affected multiple districts in 2024.
More than Tk1.2 crore was contributed through corporate and employee donations in partnership with humanitarian organisations supporting affected communities.
According to the statement, Bangladesh’s e-commerce sector navigates a more competitive environment, with platforms increasingly focused on efficiency and profitability as internet access and smartphone use continue to expand beyond major cities.
Daraz remains the country’s largest e-commerce platform, with its latest statement aimed at reassuring merchants, customers and partners about its continued presence in the market.
