A ‘Little Free Library’ has been set up at Dhaka University to promote reading habits among students.
The small libraries have been installed at three popular student hangout spots – in front of the Faculty of Business Studies, the Faculty of Social Sciences and the TSC – in phases.
The initiative was taken by Sakib Biswas, member secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal’s Bijoy Ekattor Hall unit, marking the National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
Sakib said, “The aim of the initiative is to make reading more accessible and engaging for students. Students can borrow books from here to read and also contribute their own books to enrich the collection.”
“This is a small initiative for the knowledge-seeking students of Dhaka University,” Sakib added. “I took this step to encourage and expand students’ interest in reading, while also making the Revolution and Solidarity Day (7 November) more meaningful.”
The libraries will be managed by university students themselves. The organisers hope that with active student participation, this knowledge-sharing initiative will continue to grow.
