The burial of four family members, who died in a tragic road accident in Cumilla, has been completed.
On Friday after Jumma prayers, the funeral (janaza) was held at Bashaji Patwari Bari Jame Mosque in Titarakandi village, Lakshmipur. They were laid to rest side by side in four graves at the family cemetery. The deaths of the four have cast a shadow of grief over the area.
Those killed in accident were Mufti Abdul Momin, his wife Jharna Begum (40), son Saif (7), and daughter Labiba (18). car driver, Jamal Hossain (52) from Barishal district, also died in the crash.
Another son of Abdul Momin, Abrar (12), was injured and is receiving treatment at the Maynamati Army General Hospital. His condition is stable.
The accident occurred around 6pm in front of the Miami Hotel in Kalakachua when a bus of Star Line Paribahan collided with a private car, killing the car’s driver on the spot.
The critically injured passengers, including a child, were rushed to Cantoment General Hospital, Chandina Upazila Health Complex, and Cumilla Medical College Hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, four of them later died, bringing the death toll to five.
Abdul Momin, officer-in-charge of Mainamati Highway Police Station, confirmed the accident and said legal action is underway. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
