A shipment of 62,150 metric tonnes of wheat from the United States arrived at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port on Friday under a government-to-government (G2G) agreement, marking the second delivery under the arrangement.
The first consignment, consisting of 58,457 metric tonnes of wheat, had previously reached Bangladesh, according to a press release from the Ministry of Food.
Authorities said sampling and quality testing of the new shipment are already underway, with preparations in progress to ensure the cargo is unloaded promptly.
Of the total shipment, 37,290 metric tonnes are scheduled to be discharged at Chattogram Port, while the remaining 24,860 tonnes will be transported to Mongla Port.
Officials noted that Bangladesh has imported a total of 467,884 metric tonnes of wheat under earlier G2G arrangements, including 237,845 tonnes through G2G-01 and 230,039 tonnes under G2G-02.
Bangladesh’s annual wheat requirement is estimated at around 7 million metric tonnes. With domestic production producing approximately 1 million tonnes, the country relies heavily on imports from both public and private sources to bridge the supply gap.
