Three leaders of National Citizen Party (NCP) in Nilphamari have left the party and formally joined Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
The announcement came during a discussion meeting organised by the district Jamaat to mark Independence and National Day.
According to sources, the three leaders resigned from NCP under the leadership of its Nilphamari district unit joint convener Md Khairat Hossain Shah. They later formally joined Jamaat-e-Islami.
The members are Md Khairat Hossain Shah, joint member secretary Md Shah Alam Chowdhury, and Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
Leaders present at the event said the decision was taken in the context of the country’s current political situation. They said the move aims to strengthen ideological positioning and organisational activities.
Jamaat leaders welcomed the new members with floral greetings at the event, where leaders and activists from district and upazila levels were present.
Al-Faruk Abdul Latif , Member of Parliament from Nilphamari-2 (Sadar) and assistant secretary of the district Jamaat, confirmed the development.
He said the inclusion of new members would further energise the organisation and strengthen its activities at the district level through their experience and leadership.
No immediate comment was available from any leader of the NCP district unit regarding the matter.
