Twelve ballots were submitted in the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (Cucsu) election without the presiding officer’s signature. The incident occurred at Room 214 of the Faculty of Engineering on Wednesday, shortly after voting began.
Assistant Presiding Officer Dr Hasan Rashed Rouf, who is in charge of the center, explained that the 12 ballots were mistakenly submitted without the necessary signature after voters arrived.
“We have separated these ballots,” Dr Rouf said, adding that the Election Commissioner would make a decision regarding them later in the afternoon.
The incident has raised alarm among candidates. Hasibur Rahman Roni, a candidate for Social Welfare and Environment Secretary, expressed concern, stating, “I suspect this may have happened at other centers as well.”
Voting for both the Cucsu central and hall unions began at 9am. In total, 415 candidates from 13 panels are competing for 26 positions in the central union, while 486 candidates are vying for 14 positions in the hall unions.
A total of 27,518 voters will cast their votes across 15 centers throughout the campus.
