The Pohela Baishakh celebrations at Chittagong University (CU) commenced with a festive Baishakhi Shobhajatra. This year, the university and the Fine Arts Institute joined forces to celebrate the Bengali New Year centrally.
The procession began at 10:30am on Tuesday from the university’s Sharan Chattar.
Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Al-Forkan officially inaugurated the festivities by releasing balloons. The Shobhajatra proceeded from Sharan Chattar, circled Kata Pahar, passed in front of the Shaheed Minar, and concluded at Jarultala.
The procession saw the participation of Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Al-Forkan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Mohammed Shamim Uddin Khan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Md Kamal Uddin, and Acting Registrar Mohammed Saiful Islam.
Other notable attendees included the Dean of the Faculty of Science Mohammed Al-Amin, the Director of the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (Cucsu) Centre Mohammad Zahedur Rahman, Cucsu representatives, and various administrative officials and stakeholders.
Following the procession, a discussion meeting was organised at Jarultala. The event also featured traditional activities, including puppet shows, Kabaddi, Boli Khela, and Bouchi Khela. Additionally, the university organised a day-long fair, while Cucsu hosted a two-day entrepreneur fair and job fair.
