The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Md Mahafuz Ullah Siddiqui, 40, a key ringleader of a human trafficking syndicate operating in Cambodia.

The Transnational Crime division conducted an operation in the Aftabnagar area, adjacent to Banasree in the capital, and apprehended Siddiqui at 6:45pm on Wednesday.

The arrest was confirmed in a press release signed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Niaz Mehedi of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division on Thursday.

According to CTTC sources, Siddiqui is a named accused in a case filed with Airport Police Station under Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Prevention and Suppression Act.

Preliminary investigations have identified him as one of the primary masterminds of an active human trafficking ring based in Cambodia.

Police stated that the process of taking legal action against the arrestee is currently underway.
