A 19-year-old student allegedly took his own life by hanging himself at his residence in Kalamia Bazar area of Bakolia, Chattogram, on Tuesday after failing his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations.
The deceased was identified as Adnanuzzaman Nihal, a science background student of Purba Bakolia City Corporation Boys’ High School. He was the son of Md Anisuzzaman, a resident of Kalamia Bazar.
According to Nihal’s uncle, Sakhawat, on Monday upon learning that he had failed in five subjects in SSC examination, Nihal went to sleep in his room without his family’s knowledge. On Tuesday morning, family members discovered him hanging in his room.
His uncle said they found him hanging at around 9:30am, immediately brought him down, and subsequently informed the police. A team from Bakolia Police Station arrived at the scene and recovered the body at approximately 11:30am.
Md Zahedul Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bakolia Police Station, said Nihal had hanged himself after failing his examinations.
The OC added that following the completion of legal formalities, the body was sent to the Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Legal action regarding the incident is currently underway.
