Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has introduced two payment verification numbers – the “R Number” and “CP Number” – in its Terminal Operating System (TOS) and online e-challan system to strengthen financial transparency, prevent fraud and streamline cargo delivery procedures.
The new facility will allow port officials, shipping agents, clearing and forwarding (C&F) agents, importers, exporters and other port users to verify customs-related documents and port charge payments more easily through the online system.
The information was disclosed in a press release issued by Chattogram Port Authority on Tuesday, signed by CPA Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim.
According to the press release, the “R Number,” associated with the Bill of Entry, and the “CP Number,” linked to the payment of port charges, have been incorporated into the online e-challan system under the TOS.
The move comes as part of the authority’s efforts to modernise port services and make operations more transparent, efficient and secure.
Under the updated system, the online e-challan will serve as an official document for both the port authority and relevant users during the final “Gate Out” process for cargo-carrying vehicles.
The system will also enable importers and C&F agents to check the R Number as confirmation of the relevant Bill of Entry and the CP Number as confirmation of payment of port charges when taking delivery of goods.
The port authority said the integration of the two numbers would make it easier for concerned departments to verify payment information and establish the authenticity of customs documentation and port charge transactions.
The initiative is expected to reduce opportunities for financial irregularities and unauthorised transactions while making cargo release and final gate-out procedures more secure, transparent and efficient.
