A Dhaka court has fixed 11 May for the hearing on charge framing against former National Board of Revenue (NBR) official Matiur Rahman in a case over illegal assets worth around Tk5.5 crore.
Matiur’s lawyer Md Wahiduzzaman Liton Dhali confirmed the matter Monday.
The hearing was originally scheduled for the day in the court of Dhaka Divisional Special Judge Sharmin Afroz.
However, the defence submitted an application seeking adjournment, which the court granted, setting 11 May for the hearing.
On 15 December 2024, two cases were filed against Matiur and his second wife on charges of acquiring illegal assets and concealing wealth information.
The allegations involve acquisition of Tk5,28,75,939 beyond known sources of income and concealment of assets worth Tk1,27,66,216.
Detective Branch of Police arrested Matiur on 14 January 2025, and he has remained in custody since.
The controversy surrounding him began in 2024 after a Facebook post went viral about his son Ifat, who reportedly purchased a goat for Tk15 lakh from Sadeeq Agro in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, for Eid‑ul‑Azha.
