A Dhaka court on Monday ordered the seizure of tax records of Afroza Sultana, wife of former Narsingdi-2 lawmaker Anwarul Ashraf Khan, in connection with a corruption investigation.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Shahjahan Kabir passed the order after allowing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the petition, the ACC filed a case against Afroza Sultana and her husband on 9 January, 2025, under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, and Section 109 of the Penal Code.
The ACC stated that during the investigation, officials reviewed collected documents and other relevant information, which showed that Afroza Sultana is a registered taxpayer.
The commission further argued in its petition that her tax records need to be seized immediately for the sake of a proper and effective investigation.
