The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized 50,000 Yaba tablets worth an estimated Tk2.50 crore during an operation in the Naf River near Nazirpara on Shah Porir Dwip in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
However, no one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan disclosed the information on Thursday morning.
Acting on a tip-off, Coast Guard personnel from the Shah Porir Dwip outpost conducted a special operation in the Naf River near Nazirpara around 11pm on Wednesday, he said.
During the operation, Coast Guard personnel signalled a suspicious engine-powered wooden boat to stop, but the suspected drug traffickers fled after noticing their presence.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of a floating sack containing 50,000 Yaba tablets, with an estimated street value of Tk2.50 crore.
The Coast Guard official said the process of taking further legal action over the seized drugs was under way.
He added that the Coast Guard would continue such operations to prevent the spread of dangerous narcotics.
