A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of income tax documents belonging to former Pabna Superintendent of Police (SP) Sheikh Rafiqul Islam and his wife, Farhana Rahman, in connection with allegations of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income through corruption and abuse of power.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Court Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the order on Monday, following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Court bench assistant Riaz Hossain confirmed the development.
According to court sources, Farhana Rahman is accused of illegally acquiring Tk39,02,225, while Rafiqul Islam is alleged to have aided her in obtaining the assets.
To facilitate a proper investigation, ACC Deputy Assistant Director Md Rokonuzzaman had requested the seizure of all income tax records from the 2007-08 to 2024-25 fiscal years.
After reviewing the application, the court directed that the couple’s tax documents be confiscated for further examination.
