A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of 162 kathas of land in the Jalshiri Housing Project and other properties under 53 land documents, along with the freezing of three bank accounts belonging to Nazrul Islam Majumder, chairman of NASSA Group.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz issued the order on Tuesday, following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Court Bench Assistant Md Riaz Hossain said the seized assets include 30 land deeds in Badda, 16 in Tejgaon, and seven deeds covering 162 kathas in the Jalshiri project area, with an estimated total value of Tk180.37crore. The three frozen bank accounts hold Tk2.02crore.
ACC investigating officer Shahjahan Miraz submitted the petition, alleging that Majumder had amassed Tk781crore through abuse of power, bribery, and corruption, wealth inconsistent with his known sources of income. A corruption case has already been filed against him.
Investigators informed the court that the accused had been attempting to sell or transfer his movable and immovable assets.
They argued that disposal of these properties before the conclusion of the trial would result in significant losses to the state, prompting the court to seize the immovable assets and freeze the movable ones.
Majumder was arrested on 1 October last year and has been in jail since, in connection with attempted murder and ACC corruption cases.
