A Dhaka court on Wednesday imposed a travel ban on former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman, who was sentenced to death for his role in the killing of six people in Chankharpul during the July uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the order, following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The former DMP commissioner remains a fugitive, with court proceedings continuing in his absence.
ACC Deputy Assistant Director Abu Mohammad Anwarul Masud had sought the travel ban, citing ongoing investigations into Habibur Rahman and others for acquiring illegal wealth abroad through bribery, corruption, and recruitment malpractice.
Court bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed the development.
The petition noted that reliable sources indicated Habibur Rahman was attempting to leave the country, which could obstruct the ongoing investigation, making the travel restriction necessary.
Habibur Rahman, along with three other police officers, was sentenced to death on 26 January by the International Crimes Tribunal in connection with the killing of six people in Chankharpul.
