A Dhaka court on Sunday set June 17 for the submission of the supplementary investigation report in the high-profile Osman Hadi murder case.
The report was originally scheduled to be filed before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court on Sunday. However, as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) failed to submit it, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah rescheduled the submission.
Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inquilab Mancha, was shot by unidentified assailants at around 2:20 pm on December 12 last year on Box Culvert Road in Paltan while returning from Friday prayers.
A case was filed on December 14 by Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of the Inquilab Mancha, at Paltan Police Station. Hadi was taken to Singapore for advanced treatment but died of his injuries on December 18.
On December 20, Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad ordered the addition of Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code to the case following a petition from the Investigating Officer (IO).
On January 6, IO Inspector Faisal Ahmed of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch submitted a charge sheet against 17 accused to the CMM Court. The complainant later objected to the charge sheet on January 15, prompting the court to order further investigation by the CID.
Of the 17 accused, 11 are currently in jail, while six remain at large.
