Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman claimed on Friday that the country is not in a good shape, citing a significant disruption in public safety.
Speaking to the media after performing Jumma prayers at a mosque in Sylhet, the Jamaat chief said the current situation is largely due to certain remarks made by individuals within the government.
Before addressing political issues, he extended early Ramadan and Eid greetings to the public, requesting prayers for the nation’s well-being.
Shafiqur attributed the prevailing social instability to “irresponsible” comments made by government officials, including those at the ministerial level. He said the government must take full responsibility for such conduct, which he claimed is inciting unrest within society.
“The security of people’s lives is at risk,” Shafiqur said, urging the government to provide proper attention to the matter.
He specifically called upon members of the ruling party to ensure they do not shield criminals or take responsibility for their misdeeds, warning that crime cannot be eradicated from society if offenders receive political backing.
Responding to questions regarding the country’s direction under the new government following the elections, the ameer clarified the opposition’s stance.
The Jamaat ameer maintained that while the opposition would certainly support the government’s “good work,” they would offer no concessions if the administration acted against the interests of the people, the environment, or the “Deen of Allah.”
He concluded by emphasising that the government, opposition, and non-partisan individuals must all work together for the country to prosper.
