A 68‑year‑old convict died at Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on Saturday.
The deceased was Torikul Islam of Dhuyaparam Moubon Linepara in Godagari upazila, Rajshahi.
Prison guards found him unconscious around 12pm and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival at the emergency department.
DMCH Police Camp In‑charge Md Faruk, also an inspector, confirmed the death, saying the prisoner had fallen ill inside the jail.
Details of the case under which Torikul was jailed could not be immediately known.
The body is currently kept in the hospital morgue.
