Seven people were killed and three others injured in two explosions in Pakistan’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Police confirmed that seven people were martyred and three others sustained injuries in the twin blasts, reports Dawn.
Security forces and law enforcement agencies immediately reached the scene, collected evidence and launched an investigation into the incidents.
In a statement, the police said the two vehicles were targeted in “remote-controlled blasts” in the Phang Musa Khel area, describing the incidents as a “cowardly act of terrorism”.
According to the statement, the first blast targeted a private Datsun vehicle carrying passengers. As injured victims from the explosion were being transported to hospital, a second blast struck.
Police and local sources said the Datsun vehicle was travelling towards Domel when the explosion occurred. The blast killed five people and completely destroyed the vehicle.
Eyewitnesses said the second explosion took place nearly one kilometre from the site of the first blast. It killed two people and destroyed the vehicle they were travelling in.
Rescue teams later moved the bodies and injured victims to Domel Rural Health Centre and Khalifa Gul Nawaz Teaching Hospital.
Meanwhile, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
Authorities also carried out a thorough sweep amid concerns that additional explosive devices could still be present.
