The Election Commission (EC) is set to launch a new expatriate voter registration app, Postal Vote BD, aimed at enabling Bangladeshi citizens living abroad to take part in the national voting process.

“We will inaugurate ‘Postal Vote BD’ on the evening of November 18 as we aim to ensure the voting rights of expatriates this time,” said Election Commissioner Brig Gen (Retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah said during a meeting with registered political parties at the Election Building in Agargaon ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

He urged political parties to encourage expatriates to register as voters, saying, “If political parties promote this, our initiative will succeed.”

According to a PID release, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin will formally unveil the app at the EC Auditorium between 6:00pm and 7:15pm on 18 November. The app has been developed to safeguard the voting rights of Bangladeshi citizens abroad.

Meanwhile, the EC will hold an online meeting this afternoon regarding expatriate voter registration.

An EC notice said a training session on IT-of-Country Voting (OCV) will be conducted via Zoom, with participation from Regional and Additional Regional Election Officers, Senior District and District Election Officers, Additional District Election Officers, and Upazila/Thana Election Officers.
