Police have recovered the bodies of two people, including a college student, from separate locations in Dhaka’s Badda and Bhatara areas on Thursday night.
The deceased were identified as Sayeed Hasan Jihan, 17, a twelfth-grade student of Mohanagar College, and Shihab Uddin Malek alias Sagor, 36.
The bodies have been sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for post-mortem examinations.
According to Badda Police Station Sub-Inspector Mezbah Uddin’s inquest report, Jihan lived with his family in South Anandanagar area of Badda.
The report said he allegedly locked himself inside his room without the knowledge of family members between 5pm and 6:30pm on Thursday and hanged himself from a ceiling fan using a cloth belt.
Family members later found him hanging and brought him down before informing police, who recovered the body.
Jihan’s father was identified as Md Rony Sarker and his mother as Lila Akter.
Meanwhile, Bhatara Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Chand Ali said Shihab Uddin was originally from Agrabad area of Halishahar in Chattogram. His parents were identified as Abdul Malek and Nurjahan Malek.
Shihab lived on Road No 14 in C Block of Bashundhara Residential Area. Police said he allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan in the dining room of his residence while remaining on a video call with a female friend on Thursday.
